Why More Isn't Always Better: Understanding Spiritual Hygiene in Akashic Readings

How Much Is Enough?

Every now and then, a question arises that stops me in my tracks—not because it’s unreasonable, but because it reveals just how little we sometimes understand about the nature of spiritual work.

A new client recently expressed excitement about booking a session but felt 60 minutes might not be enough. “Would you be open to a 90-minute session?” she asked. It’s a fair question on the surface, but for someone new to this work, it carries complexities they might not yet realize.

Spiritual work, particularly in the Akashic Records, is a deeply energetic process that requires care, boundaries, and balance. For someone unfamiliar with its depth, it’s easy to assume that more time means more value. But in truth, spending too long in such an energetically charged space can be unsustainable—not just for the client, but for the practitioner as well.

So, why is 60 minutes enough? And why could extending that time—especially for a new client—be more harmful than helpful? Let’s dive into why pacing, preparation, and spiritual hygiene are essential for safe and transformative intuitive work.

The Importance of Spiritual Hygiene in Akashic Work

Spiritual hygiene in the context of Akashic Records work refers to the practices that maintain energetic, emotional, and spiritual clarity when accessing this sacred space. It involves cultivating a state of inner balance and purity, allowing for a clear, respectful connection to the Records, free from distractions or personal biases. Without these practices, both practitioners and clients can experience imbalances that manifest physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

One of the first teachings I received in my Akashic journey was to "be mindful of your time." My mentor warned me about the potential physical and energetic toll of spending too much time in Akashic energy. This realm operates on an entirely different frequency—one that practitioners may attune to over time but will never fully stabilize within as we do in the physical world.

If you’ve ever felt the hair on the back of your neck stand up, you’ve experienced a fraction of what light workers feel when navigating different frequencies. The intensity of this energy can drain human vitality, create headaches, and strain both the crown and heart chakras. For empathic practitioners like myself, the heart chakra works overtime to absorb and transmute the energy of others.

Have you ever left an Akashic Records reading feeling lighter or more peaceful? That clarity often comes from your practitioner’s ability to lift the pull of negative energy. But this work requires immense focus and balance. Overextending during one session can negatively impact the next, leading to physical and emotional exhaustion.

As someone deeply committed to spiritual hygiene, I limit myself to 3-4 sessions daily, ensuring I maintain the same energy and focus for each client. Between sessions, I prioritize grounding rituals, energy clearing, and rest. This balance allows me to give clients my full presence and ensure the work remains sustainable.

Spiritual hygiene is not just a practice—it’s a cornerstone of Akashic work. By respecting the boundaries of this sacred energy, practitioners and clients alike can honor the clarity and alignment it provides.

Why 60 Minutes is the Ideal Length for a Session

When I first began offering Akashic Records readings eleven years ago, my sessions were 75 minutes long. At that time, most people I encountered had never heard of the Akashic Records, so I built in extra time to explain the process, attune to the energy, and ground both myself and the client to ensure I received clear answers.

Over time, with experience and practice, I’ve refined this process. I now understand a client’s goals, offer psychic insights, and move into their Akashic Records—all while ensuring they are grounded before and after the session—in just about 50 minutes. This approach not only sustains my energy but also allows clients to leave the session with clarity and actionable next steps, ready to integrate what they’ve learned without overwhelming their day.

The shorter session length has also helped me serve a growing roster of clients during the week while maintaining balance in my own life. As an energy worker, it’s essential to preserve my weekends for rest and renewal. Extending sessions to 90 minutes would limit the number of clients I could support and could dilute the clarity of the guidance received.

In my experience, a request for a 90-minute session often signals that a client may be inclined to emotionally dump or take extensive notes instead of staying present with their guides’ messages. This approach runs counter to the practice I’ve built, which emphasizes real-time processing, presence, and actionable clarity.

A 60-minute session is more than enough to address your heaviest burdens, gain clarity on your soul purpose, and create a mini roadmap for meaningful change. Your role in the session is to allow yourself to be guided—fully present and open to what your spirit guides and I can offer you.

Tailoring the Experience for New Clients

In today’s "creative economy," many individuals approach spiritual guidance with specific expectations for how the experience should unfold. However, when working in unseen realms, it is crucial for intuitive guides to establish a safe and sustainable spiritual container.

Each new client session is a journey into the unknown. Ethically, I do not conduct readings or assessments before a session is scheduled. This means I only learn what I’m stepping into moments before the session begins. For this reason, I require all clients to start with a 60-minute intuitive consult before committing to intuitive coaching. This ensures that I have the willingness and capacity to address their unique concerns.

The initial session serves as a blank canvas with a clear framework. It allows me to assess whether our energies align, whether the client is genuinely seeking guidance or simply validation, their level of spiritual readiness, and their openness to change and transformation. It also helps me determine if their needs might be better served by traditional therapy for their short- or long-term goals.

From this foundational session, I can offer personalized recommendations based on insights from their guides and align them with services I am experienced and equipped to provide. When a new client requests more than what I offer before we’ve even begun, it often signals a misalignment. In such cases, it’s likely that their needs fall outside the scope of my practice, and the relationship may not extend beyond the initial session.

The Beauty of Integration and Follow-Up Work

You cannot resolve a few difficult years—or a lifetime of unprocessed trauma—in a single session, whether it lasts 60 or 90 minutes. Yet, many of my new clients come to me months or even years later than they should have sought divine guidance. This delay underscores why carving out time for focused work in the initial session is so critical.

Often, clients arrive overflowing with the need to “discuss” every aspect of their lives. While this desire is understandable, it can defeat the purpose of seeking guidance from an empath. Empaths—and other forms of light workers—are like a cheat code for growth. They not only feel your emotions as their own but can articulate truths you may struggle to express, unlocking deeper understanding of your circumstances.

Your guides, however, have their own agenda. Their role is to present synchronicities that steer you toward clarity and provide messages you need to hear now. These messages illuminate the path toward what you desire and align with your destiny. With my help, focusing on just two or three major burdens in your first session allows you to gain balance and perspective. It’s a meaningful step toward aligning more deeply with your soul’s purpose.

The initial session is a checkpoint, revealing how aligned you are with your purpose and identifying the roadblocks making your desires feel out of reach. It’s not just about relief—it’s about creating space for deeper soul work. This work fosters the focus and willingness needed to overcome profound traumas and transform your life.

All too often, I hear new clients say, “I don’t have any trauma,” as though it’s a badge of honor. I laugh internally, knowing that trauma is a universal condition of the human experience—an essential tenet of the Akashic Records. Every human, past and future, has experienced or will experience trauma. What isn’t guaranteed is our happiness.

This is why spiritual guidance is so urgent: the pursuit of joy—consistent, soul-sustaining joy—demands it.

Learning to integrate spiritual knowledge as a practice is one of the greatest benefits of intuitive coaching. Regularly accessing the Akashic Records creates a cumulative effect, offering an energetic alignment akin to a perfect dose of relief for a patient with chronic pain. This energy infusion, combined with subsequent downloads, provides prolonged clarity, heightens natural intuition, and creates the space needed to make revelations actionable. While there is always time in your incarnation to deepen this practice, embracing the patience and openness to understand the depth of your guides’ messages is essential. Only then can you fully engage with the roadmap for growth they have tailored to your spiritual condition.

90 minutes isn’t always better, especially for first-time clients. The next time you feel the desire to ask for more time, a longer session, or a service that isn’t offered consider basic spiritual hygiene. Setting clear boundaries around the intensity of an energy exchange protects both the client and the practitioner from spiritual exhaustion or imbalance. While spiritual guidance feels deeply personal, remember that your Akashic practitioner is also committed to guiding others, maintaining their own self-care, and honoring their energy. Trust is critical in the realm of spirituality. Be open to what’s available as you begin your journey with a new guide—you might just discover more than you ever imagined.

Trust the process, embrace the balance between seeking guidance and integrating the insights you receive, and know that every step you take is part of your unique spiritual journey.
