An Argument for the Intuitive Doula: Healing The Wounded Feminine

The Wounded Feminine was created as medical systems stripped birthing mothers away from their right of choice and the ancestral knowledge of the birth ritual by introducing male-led hospital systems. The institution of the hospital has left women with limited control over their birthing experiences, which generates a power imbalance that can lead to feelings of disempowerment and loss of bodily autonomy during childbirth. Here lies the need for the intuitive doula.

Birth is an experience that is different for everyone. Much of the birth experience depends on your role or your perceived role. Comparatively, one could make the same connection with trauma as it relates to birth. As a pregnant woman, I didn't think much about the trauma associated with birth until it was too late.
