Breonna Taylor

Breonna Taylor.

Are we so naive that we even attempt the emotion of surprise today? I should hope not. No one will be held responsible for breaking in and killing a beautiful young black lady with such a promising future.

And I’m sure when many see a black woman, a bright future is the last thing that crosses their mind. Our white counterparts in this country see black, and they see criminal, incorrectness, ghetto. I believe this is why there is never any justice for the black lives lost in this country because this country does not value black people. More importantly, it doesn't respect different, despite trying to assert itself as a melting pot; or the greatest country in the world. We can only be as great as our weakest aspect, believe it or not; diversity isn’t our thing.

When I think about the path ahead, I believe it must be more than just a Blaxit, but a mindset shift—a new direction for our people, our culture.

Separation.

We must separate ourselves from the false promises of the past and of this country. The pathway forward will undoubtedly be as tumultuous as unnerving as our ancestors’ journey to this country.

Sacrifice.

The one thing we have been unwilling to do is separate ourselves not just from what we have built, but to the identities, we have created and attached ourselves to for the sake of our ego.

I feel now more than ever, we have to embrace who we really are, which means considering our home in a new light. We must consider our home as a possibility, a choice.

Home, The Continent.

We have indoctrinated ourselves in many foreign things that are not natural to who we are so much that our greatest fear is not who we would become, but who we are, who they have made us.

If for no other reason, all of the collective loss and the absence of justice should solidify our worth in our home place. We have nothing left to lose but our bodies.

The sacrifice we have already made is in our soulfulness, our leadership, our wisdom. All of our heroes are gone.  There will be no one to lead us. Now is the time we must collectively or individually decide for ourselves.

If not for Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, Atatiana Jefferson, Stephon Clark, Botham Jean, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, Philando Castille, Eric Garner, Jacob Blake, Alton Sterling, Ahmadou Diallo, would we even consider this?

And for that, I am grateful their sacrifice will not be in vain.  Loss has always held the power to elevate us to our higher consciousness. The question is, “Will you allow it to elevate you now?”

Make no mistake; this is not about the vote or a revolution. It was never about that. This experience has been an opportunity for soul growth. In any incarnation, we always have free will at our disposal. But, what have we learned?

Do the remainder of the lessons we have to receive be done in a place other than home? Or, could we begin our journey and contemplate our struggle as we are headed toward her Light?

I believe the answer is clear.

I know that some aspect of our being will return not just to the Light from the Source, but also to our natural place of being.  When we are no more, we shall divide ourselves and find our way home, not just in the heavens, but we will remain as territorial ancestors of the land from which we hail. I only ponder if it is possible for us to be there before we are merely dust?

I believe the answer is clear.

Thank you, Breonna.

See you when I get home.
